Additional Detroit Red Wings Info

The Detroit Red Wings are, to put it simply, a legendary ice hockey team. As of 2018, the Red Wings have won 11 Stanley Cup championships—the most championship wins of any NHL franchise based in the United States and the third most Stanley Cup championships in the entire NHL, behind the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Detroit Red Wings fans are so passionate and so loyal that Detroit has come to be known as “Hockeytown.”

The team was known founded in 1926 as the Detroit Cougars. They briefly changed their name to the Detroit Falcons, before finally landing on the Detroit Red Wings in 1932. For the first 52 years of their existence, Detroit Red Wings Ticket Holders attended Olympia Stadium to cheer on their team. The team then moved to the Joe Louis Arena in 1979, and in 2017 played their first game at their new home, the Little Caesars Arena.

From 1946 to 1980 Detroit Red Wings Ticket Holders flocked to games to watch Gordie Howe. Nicknamed “Mr. Hockey”, Howe is considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. A 23-time NHL All-Star, he held many scoring records until they were broken in the 1980s by Wayne Gretzky. Howe continues to hold NHL records for most games and seasons played.

The Red Wings entered a slump from 1967 to 1982. However, from 1983 to 2016 they made the playoffs 30 times in 32 seasons, including 25-straight from 1990 to 2015. Since 1983, the Red Wings have tallied six regular season first-place finishes and have won the Stanley Cup four times. Fans of the Detroit Red Wings can get tickets from Golden Tickets to watch their beloved team add to their legacy.
