Additional Miami Heat Info

The Miami Heat entered the NBA in 1988 as an expansion team. The new franchise struggled early on, but made their first appearance in the playoffs in 1992, where they were swept by the Chicago Bulls in the first round.

In 1995, legendary head coach Pat Riley came on board and guided a team featuring all-stars Alonzo Mourning and Tim Hardaway to a division title. In 1997, the Miami Heat defeated the Orlando Magic and the New York Knicks in the first 2 rounds of post-season play. The Heat’s play-off run in 1997 ended in the Eastern Conference finals, where the team lost to the Chicago Bulls.

In 2003, guard Dwyane Wade joined the roster, followed by Shaquille O’Neal in 2004. Riley returned as head coach 22 games into the 2005–2006 season, and Miami defeated the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games to win their first NBA championship.

Miami Heat Ticket Holders continued to watch the franchise “heat up” in the late 2000s when Wade was joined by megastar LeBron James and all-star power forward Chris Bosh. In 2012, the Heat won their second NBA Championship. The following season, the team registered the second-longest winning streak in NBA history (27 games) and won a franchise-record 66 games and their third NBA Championship.

In 2013, Miami Heat Ticket Holders witnessed the Heat become the first team in more than a quarter-century to make 4 consecutive NBA Finals appearances. However, they lost to the Spurs in their last appearance. During the following off-season, Wade and Bosh both stayed with Miami, but James returned home to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a controversial move that garnered much media attention.
